For the past 10 years I have been visiting Badininal /Badantional (choose your spelling!) in Wester Ross, staying at an old fisherman’s cottage on the shore, watching and documenting the continual changes in the sea and the sky. I’ve made altered books and various paintings that are being exhibited in the award winning Gairloch museum. View videos of my altered books ‘O for light‘ and ‘New ways Through‘ and to see all the paintings in SeeSkySea exhibition Click here for the online Gallery For lots more images including some of me doing some very odd moves at the opening night follow my instagram or facebook pages.
I’m participating in the Forth Valley Open Studio weekend 10th & 11th July. I spent both lockdowns creating art in an attic flat in the iconic converted CLOCKMILL, Tillicoultry. Come see me where I will have some of my April skies and other text pieces available all at the entrance foyer. There are many other makers spread around Forth Valley so make a day of it. Cycle routes also a great option. details on www.forthvalleyartbeat.com
Click here to see and hear my artist talk from my exhibition O for light. During which I explain my April skies and O for light altered book and the paintings developed from it, all created during lockdown 2020, including my participation in 100 day project Scotland……
Upright Gallery is showing my new body of painterly text pieces based on the changing sky that I created during lockdown 2020.
A spring series of 30 small paintings depict the April sky, each one highlighting a single word.
A summer selection of larger paintings inspired by pages from my 100 day book, with subtle colour changes and mark-making whilst gently weaving the text through.
16th October – 6th November. Upright Gallery.. Barclay Terrace, Bruntsfield, Edinburgh
Follow me on Instagram or my Facebook page (links below) to see the paintings and collages I’m doing of the sky. Snippets of text can be seen, I’m taking each day as it comes and ‘finding the now’.
Following my Croft residency in Wester Ross in April I am creating a new body of work, for SSA Exhibition at Meffan Gallery, Forfar, 7 September – 2 November 2019. This series of oil paintings is of the tools used for windblown trees….’Tools of Deforestation’. I help chop and saw but don’t touch the chainsaw or axe, (except the baby one for kindling). Over the years I’ve visited this same small Scottish forest and become familiar with it and the tools. As you can see from the gloves it was a little chilly when I was drawing outside.
‘Bring on the Diamonds’ is my new limited edition screen print created for Edinburgh Printmakers 50th Anniversary Exhibition. Using words relating to the gifts we give at anniversaries, I initially built this with traditional wooden letterpress, interlocking the words to signify the way life is intertwined. LOVE was highlighted to show what holds relationships together and italso relating to my own love of the printmaking process.
Available to purchase from Edinburgh Printmakers and directly from myself.
Exhibition on until 31st March 2018
I have been experimenting with templates for the layout for my solo exhibition. It is 10 years since I graduated from ECA and I have created 3 new bodies of work to show my evolving art . Altered prints with Erasure poetry (what does that mean??? come and see to find out); a wall of ampersands and painted scrolls with letters falling, allowing the viewer to create their own words.
Private view on 14th July & Artist talk on 12th August
looking forward to leading a workshop at Leith School of Art on Saturday 6th May. details and booking
Exhibiting 3 new artworks at the SSA annual exhibition, RSA , Mound Edinburgh, on till 24th November. The artworks are titled MiSSSpelt Art- Era
sure and are ‘painted screen prints’, the words on each have been altered to create unique Erasure Poetry artworks. I asked various artists and writers to create a poem from the original template of words, this is one I created from words chosen by Jennifer Kelly.
