Badininal Meet Mokulito… at the RA Summer Exhibition

Badininal Meet Mokulito… at the RA Summer Exhibition

‘Badininal meet Mokulito’ is on the wall at the RA summer exhibition and it’s been snapped up.  Badininal Mokulito??  Let me introduce you-Badininal is a small woodland in the Wester Ross area of Scotland. I’ve been visiting this area for some decades and love immersing myself in this woodland, both drawing it & chopping up the windsnap/windblow.   I’ve created many ink drawings of these trees & used them when learning a printmaking technique called MOKULITO, which is lithography on wood.   As often happens when on a course there is no time to print an edition of any size, there are ONLY 2 prints on paper taken from these plywood plates, once the plate has dried no further prints can be taken. It was the actual plates that I exhibited at the RA. BUT THE PRINTS ARE AVAILABLE TO BUY, contact me for details.

For the past 10 years I have been visiting Badininal /Badantional (choose your spelling!) in Wester Ross, staying at an old fisherman’s cottage on the shore, watching and documenting the continual changes in the sea and the sky. I’ve made altered books and various paintings that are being exhibited in the award winning Gairloch museum.  View videos of my altered books O for light and New ways Through and to see all the paintings in SeeSkySea exhibition Click here for the online catalogue  For lots more images including some of me doing some very odd moves at the opening night follow my instagram or facebook pages.

Upright Gallery  is showing my new body of painterly text pieces based on the changing sky that I created during lockdown 2020.
A spring series of 30 small paintings depict the April sky, each one highlighting a single word.
A summer selection of larger paintings inspired by pages from my 100 day book, with subtle colour changes and mark-making whilst gently weaving the text through.

16th October – 6th November. Upright Gallery.. Barclay Terrace, Bruntsfield, Edinburgh

Time spent with Trees

Time spent with Trees

Following my Croft residency in Wester Ross in April I am creating a new body of work, for SSA Exhibition at Meffan Gallery, Forfar, 7 September – 2 November 2019.  This series of oil paintings is of the tools used for windblown trees….’Tools of Deforestation’.  I help chop and saw but don’t touch the chainsaw or axe, (except the baby one for kindling). Over the years I’ve visited this same small Scottish forest and become familiar with it and the tools. As you can see from the gloves it was a little chilly when I was drawing outside.
